Remember this… When in doubt ask yourself… “Am I being Busy or Productive”?
Over the last 10 years or so I have shared the following story with literally thousand and the overwhelming response has and still is… the “ah ah moment, or as I prefer to call it… my own personal BFO moment, that is, Blinding Flash of the Obvious – now that your awareness has been raised there is no looking back… exciting isn’t it!As the story goes… Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber mill; even though they were not currently in the market for any additional employees, he persisted and in actual fact he gave them an offer to good to refuse. That is, he had one week to break their woodcutting record and if not, walk away with no pay, and if so, then a guaranteed job for a year…therefore you can imagine he was really determined and focused on doing his best, wasn’t he?
Day one kicks off and the boss gives him an axe and shows him the area where he was supposed to work. At the end of this day he had cut 9 tress down… “Congratulations,” the boss said. “Good start” then reminding him that the daily record was 12 trees.Very motivated from the boss’ words, the woodcutter was even more determined to try even harder too the extent that he worked through his morning and afternoon scheduled tea breaks, however over the next days day 2, 3 and 4 he could only achieve the figures of 8, 7, 5 trees cut down respectively…When the seeds of doubt start to creep in, sometimes working harder is not the solution but working more productively definitely is!
His mind chatter included thoughts like… what’s going on, I must be losing my strength”, getting older, the woodcutter contemplates…His final day to prove himself has came and gone; he looked up to notice that he only had achieved 7 trees cut down… disenchanted, he reluctantly made his way into the staffing quarters and sat back with his head sank in his lap… at this time, the boss walked up to him and asked him… “Hmm you look pretty tired”… no real response from the woodcutter… then the boss asked him… “You really had a go didn’t you? The woodcutter replies, “Yes I did, however as you can see by my results and remember the only truth is the result, it was not good enough said the woodcutter… then the boss asked him a life transforming question…“When was the last time you took time out to sharpen your axe?” the wise boss asked.“Sharpen my axe? Responded the woodcutter… “are you for real”? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…” then the woodcutter stopped stood up and graciously hugged the boss and said “ I Just Got it”… Busy V.S. Productive…
The exciting news is the boss referred him to www.georgemihos.com and said to him… go to the JV King-George Mihos himself and what George was able to show him, changed his life immensely. What did they focus on you may ask? good question… The answer was… Implementing a joint venture strategy… where the woodcutter got access to someone’s chainsaw, which in turn, allowed him to broker a deal with the timber mill where he made a percentage of the increased profit as a result of any productivity increases.
Armed with increase awareness and taking massive action by utilizing his new technology he was able to cut down ten times the previous daily record and in turn was able to a make a difference to so many more lives… stay tuned for some upcoming announcements… once again feel free to reply with your thought and questions and how many gold nuggets are in today’s topic!!!
